Are You Marketing Your School All Wrong?

Normally, the fact that I spent my professional life in business and came to the independent school sector via being a trustee—of schools, of a regional association, and of NAIS—can be something of a disadvantage when I am in a room full of educators. Hi All – My school has successfully completed a new Head of School Search and will be announcing our incoming Head next week. I am preparing an announcement that will be emailed to constituents (parents, alumni, donors, etc), posted on our website, and prepared as a Press Release. Does anyone have any advice, tips, or a communications plan related to making a transition announcement that you would be willing to share? Join the Discussion.

HELP! A student has made a Snapchat Geofilter for our school. We are not using Snapchat as a school, and while the geofilter is not in the least bit offensive (it says “Del Val” in school colors) it raises questions about how it will be used. We know we have no control over that, but what have other schools done about Snapchat and Geofilters.
Are you guys using Snapchat?
If so, do you have school spirit geofilters, and if so do you have a posted policy statement about their use?
Any personal/school experience, or relevant links that can give us guidance, will be greatly appreciated! Join the Discussion

Hey, I’m Brendan, and this is my blog. After 28 years working in private, independent schools in mostly admissions, enrollment, marketing, communications, and fundraising roles, I decided to make SchneiderB Media my full-time job, where I help schools get more inquiries through my Fractional Digital Marketer program. I also started the MarCom Society, a membership created expressly to help, support, and train marketing and communications professionals at schools.
