I get a lot of questions about the software, services, tools, cloud-applications, and books I use and recommend. As a result, I thought I would create a list of my recommended resources. Please bookmark this page as I will be updating it frequently with resources I use and recommend.
ConvertKit – I recently switched to ConvertKit as my email provider for SchneiderB.com. The main reason I switched was ConvertKit’s ability to tag subscribers. Tagging allows me to “group” subscribers into multiple categories which is a time saver in the long run. An added benefit is that the ConvertKit interface is clean, simple, and VERY easy to understand.
Mailchimp – My former email provider of choice. They offer a great feature set, excellent auto-responders, and very powerful reporting tools. They offer a Forever Free plan if your email list remains below 2,000 subscribers.
Building An Online Presence
GoDaddy – The service I use for domain registrations.
Blue Host – I’ve used quite a few different web hosting services in my time and Blue Host is, by far, the easiest and cheapest way to start a blog. You’re going to love their low prices, ease of use, and 1-click WordPress installations. They also offer a 30-Day Money-back Guarantee.
Rainmaker – SchneiderB.com runs on the Rainmaker platform and handles my blog, forum, some landing pages, learning management system (LMS), SchneiderB.fm podcast, and SchneiderB University.
Codeable.io – While I know enough to be dangerous with CSS and PHP I’m no expert. Anytime I need help with code or theme customization I turn to Codeable which is WordPress customization by experts.
Leadpages – This is my tool of choice for creating landing pages. I’ve tried a number of different services in the past and this service is the best. The price is reasonable, it’s incredibly easy to create professional looking landing pages, you can easily A/B test your pages, and they offer a ton of pre-designed templates that you can use.
Clicky – My web analytics tool of choice. While I use Google Analytics on a regular basis I sometimes find it TOO powerful and confusing. I prefer Clicky because it’s much more straight-forward and allows me to get the information I need quickly and easily.
Wistia – I host my videos at Wistia and even though I have to pay I feel it’s more than worth it – the bandwidth is excellent, the ability to embed a video is easy and customizable, and the analytics are unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
iPhone Video Hero Course – Creating video for your school is and will remain an important part of the internet marketing efforts for your school. Before you go out and purchase an expensive and complicated camera check out this online course that teaches you how to use your iPhone to create great video! I purchased this course and highly recommend it. I enjoyed it so much I delayed the purchase one of those very expensive cameras and use my iPhone to create video for my school.
ScreenFlow – I use ScreenFlow to make the screen recordings I use on SchneiderB.com.
Email Marketing [not so] 101 – This course is created by Francisco Rosales of Socialmouths.com and it rocks! I’ve completed the course and can’t recommend it enough if you are thinking about using email marketing at your school (and you probably should!).
Evernote – This tool is the center of my digital life! I store everything I want to keep in Evernote and I encourage you to check it out.
Mindmeister – This is the mind mapping software I use to brainstorm, plan, outline, and organize my thoughts digitally.
Dropbox – While Evernote is the center of my digital life, I use Dropbox to store any files that I want to access across my devices. The storage is seamless, in the cloud, and secure.
Skype – Skype is my video conferencing and connection tool of choice.
Trello – I use Trello to keep my life organized and my projects on time.
Social Media Management
Hootsuite – I originally used Hootsuite to manage my social media channels as well as my schools. It has a free version and I still recommend it’s use to manage Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
Sprout Social – I now use Sprout Social to manage the Twitter and Facebook accounts for SchneiderB as well as my school. Sprout Social isn’t free but it’s feature set, user interface, and smart inbox are worth the money to me. They also offer a non-profit discount which makes it more affordable.
Mention – I have recently begun using Mention to monitor social media for my school. Mention does a wonderful job of finding the search terms I specific anywhere on the web. Mention isn’t free but I’ve found it very worth the money.
Tailwind – This is my favorite Pinterest management tool and I can’t imagine my Pinterest life without it. My favorite Tailwind feature is the ability to schedule pins for later. I encourage you to check it out and take advantage of their free trial.
WiseStamp – This is the tool I use to add a customized signature to my email messages.
Bamboo Solo Stylus for iPad – I recently purchased an iPad Mini and use this stylus to take notes on my iPad. I love this workflow and have been very happy with this tool.
Moleskine Evernote Smart Notebook – While I try to use as little paper as possible I still like to write at certain times. This is the notebook I use. I’m then able to take a photo using the iPhone Evernote App and save what I write into Evernote.
