Weekend Update – Aug27

Social Media for Schools - Weekend UpdateHappy Social Media Saturday! Listed below are links to interesting things I found on the web this week: cool tools, great blog articles, memorable Tweets – anything that stuck out to me and I think is worth sharing. I encourage you to check them out for yourself.

Blog Post: 5 Tips for Driving Facebook Fans to Your Website - Are your Facebook fans frequenting your website? Do you want them to? Keep reading for five ways to drive traffic from Facebook to your company website.

Blog Post: How Important Is Your Blog Headline? (Read This Or Die) - A few weeks ago, I guest posted on LoriTaylor.com. Thank you Lori, it was fun! Many of you seemed to enjoy it…it was tweeted over 200 times! Tweetreach showed 399,000 impressions from the first 50 Tweets (I was too cheap to pay for the full report). However, except for a handful of friends, the tweets didn’t mention my twitter handle. The tweets and re-tweets, as well as many of the comments seemed to be directed to Lori, as if she authored the post, even though I mention my wife several times in the article. (I don’t believe Lori has a wife—LOL.) Before I continue, let me clarify my point: I’m not upset, ranting, or disappointed. On the contrary, Lori is great for allowing me to “borrow” her blog. This caused me to wonder, though. Considering the post’s reach had referrences toLori, instead of the actual author…Did people read the post or ONLY the headline? I’m certain some of the tweets and Likes were automated, but not all of them were, and certainly the comments weren’t.

So…I ask again, “How important is the headline?”

Blog Post: 27 BLOGGING SECRETS TO POWER YOUR COMMUNITY - Do you like learning about magic tricks? To me, the best magicians are the ones who share what they know. Penn and Teller are like that. They love deconstructing tricks in front of you? So, do you want to learn some blogging secrets from me?

If I say they’re secrets, you’ll treasure them more, but the thing is, I share this with you daily. I do it right in front of you. But just this once, I’ll slow it down, and walk through it all. Fair?
