In preparation for the SchneiderB VirCon7, I’m highlighting the eight school marketing experts who will be presenting on October 19, 2019. Learn More about the VirCon7.
Here are the 10 questions and responses from Emily Cretella.
- What is your session title for the VirCon7?
My session is titled “Strengthen Your Story: The Do’s and Don’ts of Breakthrough School Storytelling.”
2. What will the attendees learn/know after watching your session?
Attendees will walk away with clear and actionable ways to improve their story. They may recognize opportunities to create clarity and differentiation, or they may find ways to better elevate their strongest story elements. The session is designed to provide specific yet straightforward ways to create a breakthrough school story.
3. What is your favorite social media channel and why?
Personally, I love Instagram. To me it still feels more intimate and less overwhelming than Facebook. But for business and networking, Facebook is still on top. I love being involved in niche groups that connect me with not only education professionals, but also entrepreneurs from all over the world.
4. What is one goal that you hope to accomplish during the 2019-2020 school year?
I really look forward to providing my Cursive Insiders with new free resources! The summer is a hectic time for direct client work, and I have tons of ideas for new ebooks and worksheets, so that’s my fall to-do list.
5. What is your favorite marketing piece of advice for schools?
Audience first, always. Whenever you start with audience (and not with yourself), you’re instantly off to a stronger start, regardless of what type of marketing you’re creating.
6. What is your favorite marketing book?
I love “” by Jennifer Havice. It’s not only insightful but super actionable. I go back to it all the time.
7. What is something people might be surprised to know about you?
My mother’s family is Icelandic — and her grandfather was at one time the Prime Minister. This summer, we brought my kids (ages 8 and 7) to Iceland for the first time. Their reaction: “Iceland is better than Disney World!”
8. Kindle or Actual Book?
ACTUAL. BOOK. ALWAYS.
9. iPhone or Android?
10. What is one App that you can’t live without?
This is too hard; I need #alltheapps. But if I had to rank my top apps in order:
- Amazon Music
- Apple Podcasts
