This can only mean one thing – the holidays are here!
While I really do enjoy this time of year I sometimes get stressed out trying to decide what gifts to buy people. I also thought that you might struggle with what gifts to buy so this year I thought I would share a few of my favorite things.
iPhone Video Hero – If you own an iPhone 4, 4s or 5 then you need to check out this iPhone Video training program! I purchased this video training because I want to use more video on my blog, and for my school, but I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on equipment. This course was created by former MTV and BBC TV Director Jules Watkins and he will show you how to make awesome videos using your iPhone. The videos he has made on his iPhone for this training will stun you! Go here to learn more.
The Impact Equation: Are You Making Things Happen or Just Making Noise? by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith – I’m honestly only half way through this book but I’m really enjoying it. I was big fan of their first book, Trust Agents, and Impact Equation is no different. The basic premise of the book is to help teach you the principles to get noticed.
Inbound Marketing: Get Found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs (New Rules Social Media Series) – by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah. This is ‘the’ book for me with regard to inbound marketing. If you haven’t read this book yet please read it now! Brian and Dharmesh are the founders of HubSpot and this book started me down the path of inbound marketing. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
Likeable Social Media: How to Delight Your Customers, Create an Irresistible Brand, and Be Generally Amazing on Facebook (And Other Social Networks) by Dave Kerpen. I really enjoyed this book and it’s discussion of harnessing the power of word-of-mouth marketing and social networks – especially Facebook.
Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen – I’ve been a disciple of the Getting Things Done (GTD) system for a few years now and I think it’s the reason I’ve been able accomplish so much. If you’re looking for help getting organized, doing more, and being more creative please check out this book.
The Hunger Games Trilogy Boxed Set – OK. OK. I know…teen drama books?!?!? This was a guilty pleasure and I’m not ashamed to admit that I throughly enjoyed the trilogy. If you like science-fiction you won’t be disappointed and may the odds be ever in your favor.
The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (Twin Peaks Books) – I’m going old school on you with this recommendation. One of my favorite shows of all times is Twin Peaks and this is a prequel of sorts to the TV shows. I remember watching this show live in high school which was a big deal at the time because I attended boarding school and we weren’t allowed to have TV’s in our room.
Blue Snowball USB Microphone – I’m trying to do more video on my blog and whether it’s a screencast, video blog post, or Google+ Hangout I’ve found that audio quality might be even more important than video quality. When I purchased a microphone this is the one I bought and still use today. I was looking for the right combination of value and performance. I’m very happy with this microphone.
Cellhelmet iPhone Case – I think I’ve owned 20 different iPhone cases and haven’t been happy with any of them until now. This is the first case that balances protection without being too bulky and actually looks pretty good. The makers of Cellhelmet also include a one year warranty at a fair price – if something happens to your iPhone while it’s in the Cellhelmet they will replace or repair it (water damage is excluded.) A bonus is that the case is made in Greensburg, PA just outside of Pittsburgh!
Nozbe – As I mentioned before I’m a big fan of the Getting Things Done system and Nozbe is my tool of choice to implement GTD online. Nozbe offers a free version of their tool so it will cost you nothing to check it out.
Sprout Social – I have to admit that I’m becoming more and more of a fan of Sprout Social to manage all of my social media accounts. Sprout Social lets you manage Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and includes data from Google Analytics. I encourage you to check them out when you have a chance and considering that they offer a 30 free trial it is really painless to take their tool for a test drive.
StudioPress Community Themes – Are you looking to upgrade the design of your wordpress website? Are you launching a wordpress blog for your school and want a professional looking theme? StudioPress has the themes for you! I’ve used a StudioPress theme on SchneiderB.com since I launched the blog and absolutely love their designs, ease with which I can customize those designs, and their support.
These are a few of my favorite things and I’m always on the look out for new tools, technology, or books to read. Please share a few of your favorite things in the comments section below and I hope you have a great holiday!
