The Story:

Hi. My name is Brendan Schneider, and I started SchneiderB.com.

I started SchneiderB Media as a result of the financial crisis of 2008. I had just started as the Director of Admission & Financial Aid at Sewickley Academy in Sewickley, PA, when the stock market crashed in October 2008. As a result, our interest indicators (inquiries, applications, and visits) mirrored the stock market crash by about one month.

We panicked. What were we going to do?

We initially ran to traditional outbound marketing techniques that we had never tried before. We used billboards and placards in the airport, which proved to be very costly, hard to measure, and most importantly, those efforts didn't increase our inquiries, applications, or visits.

Next, we turned to social media and launched our Facebook Page and Twitter account, thinking that utilizing social media alone would drive hundreds of mission-appropriate, full-pay families to our doors.

We were wrong.

It was then that I read Inbound Marketing, Revised and Updated: Attract, Engage, and Delight Customers Online, by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah, the founders of Hubspot. While reading the book, I had the proverbial "light-bulb" moment. I knew that we needed to start to implement inbound marketing at my school.

This is where SchneiderB.com begins.

While I wanted to implement inbound marketing at my school, I admit that I was nervous that I would screw something up. I would "hurt" my school's marketing and enrollment process in some way. So, I launched SchneiderB.com in February 2010 during a weeklong snowstorm that closed school for a week as a way to implement the inbound marketing and social media marketing techniques "under my name" and then take what worked to school.

After many years, I can tell you that there is nothing to screw up; people simply won't pay attention to your efforts.

I learned that lesson by publishing multiple times a week with blog posts that taught the techniques that worked for me and by sharing my failures.

As blog readership grew, I launched a Facebook Group, the VirCon, SchneiderB.FM, SEO Coach, and the MarCom Society.

Since the beginning of SchneiderB, I've also grown my team. Please take a few minutes to learn more about the people behind the education, community, and support for marketing and communications professionals as schools.
